Christchurch cathedral
Square is the focal point of the city. The
Cathedral was built in 1864 and is possible
to climb the tower for panoramic views. In
the centre of the square is the statue of John
Godley the founder of Canterbury. In contrast
in the modern 18 metre high sculpture 'Chalice'
by Neil Dawson in 2001 which celebrates both
the new millennium and the 150th anniversary
of Christchurch.
